Is Wine Bad For You?
"Wine [is] a mocker and strong drink [is] raging. And whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 28:1). Who is deceived thereby? People who are deceived by alcohol are those who have consumed enough to impair their judgment. Wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging to people who drink excessively.
Under normal circumstances we should use a little wine for our stomach's sake and for infirmities (1 Timothy 5:23). We should not drink wine that has not been completely firmented (Proverbs 23:31-32).
Obviously common sense would dictate that anyone who has an alcohol addiction should avoid alcohol.
Another precaution is: 99% of all commercially-produced wine contains sulfite. At best sulfite can give you a headache; at worst (if you are asthmatic) it could kill you. Home made wine (made with no sulfite) is the healthiest. Generally dry wine is healthier than sweet wine (sweet wine contains more sweetner such as sugar).
One of the first recorded miracles of Christ was turning water into wine (Greek "oinos" - wine) (John 4:46).
