Yes, a prayer can be an abomination.

"He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination" (Proverbs 28:9).

If a religious leader tells you the law of God has been abolished, you can know that he has no interest in seeing you establish contact with the Father in prayer.
