The Character and Personality of the Beast
The Beast is to be distinguished from the false Christs. The false Christs are also promoting themselves during the end time.
"For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or 'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it" (Matthew 24:24-26 New King James Version).
These false Christs, "pseudochristoi", are not the same as the Beast. These false Christs are claiming to be Christ. Explaining it simply, they will be pro-Christ not anti-Christ. They will want the people to believe them to be Christ. A false Jesus is not going to be the Beast. The Beast will only be impersonating Christ in the sense of presenting himself as a counterfeit.
The Beast will assume the rank of Christ and, at the same time, will be an adversary to Christ. (For more details on this subject read Appendix 3 at the end of the article.)
But wouldn't people object to a man assuming a Christ-type rank? That's not necessarily true. For example, The chief Roman bishop assumes the title of Vicar of Christ. Hundreds of millions of people have no objection to this title and consider him to be their leader.
The Beast will have the spirit of antichrist, ; "antichristos", has both the meaning of "instead of Christ" and "against Christ" which makes him a unique person in the end time. Has there been the spirit of the antichrist in the past? Let's see.
"And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world" (1 John 4:3). The Beast will take this philosophy to the point of blasphemy.
