End Time Prophets
We have the benefit in this modern age of having the Old Testament and New Testament both of which have a wealth of prophecies. Many of the prophecies have been fulfilled already. Some are now being fulfilled. And a large number of prophecies are going to be fulfilled at the end of the age of man's rule of this planet.
At the end time there will also be true living prophets of God in addition to the written prophecies of the Bible. There will also be false prophets. God gives us minds with which to think and we are expected to use our minds to figure out which prophets are true and which prophets are false. God will not leave us in the dark about prophecy (Amos 3:7). A good rule of thumb for identifying a false prophet is mentioned in Deuteronomy chapter 13.
Should we follow a prophet just because he makes a prediction and the prediction happens to come true? Absolutely not!
"If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, whereof he spoke unto you, saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them; You shall not harken unto the words of that prophet..." (Verses 1-3).
Prophets of modern times may not be so blatant as to openly worship other gods. However, they may be anti-nomian. They may be against the law of God, the Ten Commandments. "You shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cleave unto him" (Verse 4). Obedience to God is the key to knowing if a prophet is true.
In the days ahead of us, the last days just before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, there will be a prophet coming in the spirit of the prophet Elijah.
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse" (Malachi 4:5-6).
During the last three and a half years of man's evil rule of this planet, there will be 2 witnesses prophesying.
"And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth" (Revelation 11:3).
During the last days sons and daughters will also prophesy (Acts 2:17 and Joel 2:28). There is a parallel between what happened during the first century AD and what will happen in the last days, sons and daughters prophesying, old men dreaming dreams, young men seeing visions.
The population of the world will hear more of God's way of life as we approach the end.
"And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14).
