The reasons for linking vary. It is an individual decision. Some are
only seeking information. Some are only looking for a market in which
to buy something. Some are looking for contacts: business, personal, etc.
Some are seeking to connect the dots in a line of logic. Some use links as
a learning experience. The important thing, in most cases, is to establish
good links that accomplish something and get rid of links that accomplish
nothing or exist only as spam or a sales pitch unwanted and unneeded by
99.99 percent of the population. Funny thing is, in the major search
engines, spam is permitted quite frequently. Look at any particularly
subject and you will see 2 or 3 or 4 entries on the first 2 pages from the
same spammer. Does this indicate corruption? Sometimes it does. Sometimes
it is just a company that has played the system and is getting by with
it. All this while the little guy is subject to the random action of the
spiders and the "rules".
